Does Your Business Show Up on the Map? Here’s How to Check (and Fix It!)
Updated: 4 days ago
If customers cannot find your business on Google Maps, you may miss opportunities to connect with people looking for your services. This guide helps Virgin Islands business owners check an existing listing, understand common visibility issues and choose a sensible next step. Being listed and ranking for a search are different things.
Why Being “On the Map” Matters
Imagine this:
A visitor in St. Thomas searches “best coffee near me”…
A family in St. John looks for “jet ski rentals Cruz Bay”…
A homeowner in St. Croix searches “electrician near me”…
A traveler in Water Island searches “boat rentals”…
Even in the BVI, tourists are searching daily…
If your listing is hard to find, customers may choose another business. Start by checking your exact business name and location, then test broader service searches separately.

Is your business eligible?
Profiles are for eligible businesses that make in-person contact with customers. Online-only businesses generally do not qualify. A service-area business that visits customers should hide its address if customers are not served there. A virtual office or another island is not automatically an eligible physical location.
Quick Check: Is Your Business Visible?
Open Google Maps and search your exact business name plus its town or island.
Confirm any matching listing belongs to your business; avoid creating a duplicate.
Test a relevant service search separately. Results vary by location and search terms, so note what you searched.
If you manage the profile, sign in to its Google Account and check verification, updates and restriction notices.
✅ If your business appears by name, confirm the address or service area, phone, hours and website. This does not guarantee visibility for every category search.
❌ If it does not appear, check spelling, existing listings, verification and restriction notices before creating another profile.

Why You Need a Google Business Profile (GBP)
GBP is…
✔ Free to set up
✔ High-impact for visibility
✔ Helps customers see your details, photos and reviews
A complete, accurate profile can help customers understand and contact an eligible business. Local ranking depends on relevance, distance and prominence; neither Flo Dynasty nor Google can promise a position.
An eligible business does not need a website to have a Google Business Profile. A website can still give customers more information and ways to contact you. Google Business Profile is free; professional setup or management services are separate paid services.

What To Do If You’re Missing
Flo Dynasty can help review your existing profile, organize accurate business information and work through Google’s available verification steps. Google controls verification and approval; setup does not guarantee ranking.
Once the fundamentals are in place, consider whether Google Ads fits your goals and budget. Paid advertising is separate from organic local ranking; buying ads does not purchase a better organic position.
✔ Pro Tip: Your Profile is Just the Beginning Keep your profile’s details, photos and updates current so customers can understand what you offer and how to reach you. At Flo Dynasty, I also help with websites, branding and social media so the information and next steps work together.

FAQ
Do I need a website to appear on Google Maps?
No. An eligible business can have a Business Profile without a website. A website can help customers understand your services and contact you.
Can businesses without a storefront show up?
Yes, if the business is eligible and visits or delivers to customers in person. Online-only businesses generally do not qualify. Hide your address if customers are not served there and follow Google’s service-area rules.
How long before my business appears on the map?
There is no guaranteed time or ranking. Google says verification review can take up to five business days and occasionally longer. Complete the method offered to your business and check Google’s guidance if problems remain.
