My First Harvest Festival & Pumpkin Patch at Magens Bay (2023)
Updated: 7 days ago

In 2023, I went to the Harvest Festival and Pumpkin Patch at Magens Bay on St. Thomas for the first time. The Virgin Islands Justice Initiative hosted this second annual event on October 14, 2023. The pumpkins caught my eye, but the people behind the tables kept me there. Here is what I saw, tasted, and learned, with my original photos and video from the day.
At the pumpkin patch
Pumpkins filled the grounds at Magens Bay. In my video, I stop where children were painting their pumpkins, including Bluey designs. Snow cones and face painting added to the family atmosphere. The photo gallery below shows scenes from my 2023 visit.

Local food and makers
I came for the pumpkin patch, but I kept stopping to talk with the people at the tables. The festival gave local makers, food vendors, and community organizations a place to meet visitors face to face. These are the people and moments I wanted to remember.
What I tasted
At Goddess B’s Magic Pot, I tried bay-leaf lemonade and vegan banana bread. I also stopped at Pinky’s Delight for pumpkin-spice cake and chocolate. The video catches more conversations along the way, including a vendor talking about coquito.
People behind the booths
I left with a white, bedazzled hibiscus breast-cancer awareness shirt. I also met a maker of customizable pieces for moms and babies. Talking with the people who brought their work to the festival made those finds feel personal.
Community conversations
The video includes conversations at the Catholic Charities of the Virgin Islands, Disability Rights Center, and American Red Cross tables. I heard about community services, disability rights, and preparedness. That part of the day stayed with me as much as the pumpkin patch.

What stayed with me
I went for my first pumpkin patch experience and left with stories from the people who made the day happen. These photos and this video are a record of that 2023 visit. If you were there too, I would love to hear what you remember.
