Advice I Would Give My Younger Self: A Personal Reflection
Updated: 5 days ago

One morning in 2023, I felt a strong urge to write down the advice I would give myself. Before I knew it, the list was longer than I expected. I turned those thoughts into a video, hoping they would help someone else pause and reflect, too.
Watch my advice to my younger self
What this reflection means to me
This advice to my younger self weighed heavily on my heart to share. As I explored who I was, I found myself wishing I had known some of the things I know now. Still, I believe everything happens for a reason, and I am right where I am supposed to be.
These are some of the lessons I have learned on this journey, the things I wish I knew growing up as a young Black girl in the U.S. Virgin Islands. No longer do I sit in the back seat of this journey I call LIFE!
The journal I shared in the original post
In the original post, I shared The Shadow Work Journal, 2nd Edition, by Keila Shaheen. It is a guided journal with prompts and reflection exercises. You do not need this particular book to begin writing down your own thoughts.

This is my personal experience, not a promise that a journal will treat anxiety, depression or trauma. Personal reflection is not a substitute for professional mental health care. If you have concerns about your mental health, speak with a qualified health care professional. The National Institute of Mental Health explains self-care and when to seek support.

Updates
October 23, 2026: I kept the original video and personal reflection, added the video artwork at the top, and refreshed the layout and Flo Dynasty links. The long book description was replaced with a short resource note and a clear affiliate disclosure. This remains a personal reflection, not mental health treatment advice.
